Bajaj has launched the XCD 135 DTS-Si today in the Indian market. Struck especially by Honda’s Stunner in the 125cc segment and Yamaha’s FZ16 in the 150+ cc segment, the company is in a damage control mode.

The XCD 135 DTS-Si plays the value for money card to lure buyers who are on a tight budget and yet want a stylish, reasonably powerful and fuel efficient bike. The bike comes with a number of first for its segment like 135 cc DTS-Si engine, a 5-Speed Gearbox, Auto Choke, Gas filled Nitrox rear shock absorbers, digital speedometer and LED tail lamps. Other significant feature include electric start and front disc brake.

While Bajaj Auto claimed development work on its small car, which it prefers to call ‘passenger 4-wheeler’, was going on despite the controversies, it has cost a two-year delay for the three companies.

“There has been considerable development on the four-wheeler so far. Last month, Renault executives were here, and we have shared all the work with them, be it styling, prototyping and testing. In fact, we have heard from them, after they went back to France, that they are satisfied. So, we have said 2012 (for the launch) and we are on course,” Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj said.
