Fuel Filter Plugging Problem-Are You Worried About Fuel Filter Plugging

If you're concerned about the rising running costs of your vehicles, then perhaps you're already aware of the problems associated with fuel filter plugging. If you're not already aware, here's what you need to know.

1. Modern diesel engines have transformed diesel vehicle performance, and now these engines are more powerful and produce lower emissions than previously, making them a much more viable alternative to petrol engined vehicles, and so more people are choosing diesel over petrol than ever before.

2. Because of the environmental impact of fossil fuels, biofuels and other alternative new fuels are being created and used, and are becoming much more mainstream than before. One of these fuels is Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel, also known as ULSD.

3. One of the disadvantages of using ULSD is that it can cause deposits to form in the engine's high pressure fuel injection (HPFI) system.

4. This injector fouling can then lead to a clogged up fuel filter, which can affect the performance of the engine, and also the economy. This can increase the running costs. For a company with a huge fleet of vehicles, travelling many thousands of miles a year, this can prove to be very expensive.

5. If the fuel filters get clogged due to ULSD, they need changing much sooner than with normal diesel. A filter can need replacing in as few as 10 -12 000 miles, which is not very long for a haulage or public transport firm.

6. Instead of reverting back to normal diesel, it is possible to use biodiesel and ULSD without clogging up the filter. There are diesel additives available that reduce fuel filter plugging.

7. Thanks to these diesel additives, it is possible to extend the life of fuel filters, to around 30 000 miles. This is more than twice, and sometimes even three times, the life of a fuel filter now, and so means that the additives will soon pay for themselves.

8. Extending the life of the filter will reduce the running costs of the vehicle, and will also mean that vehicles are not off the road as often. As well as saving money, a lot of time and inconvenience can be saved too.

9. As the fleet is more efficient, there is a reduction in running costs, which can mean that prices can be lowered so that the customer benefits too.

10. As well as being ideal for haulage firms that do a lot of miles, taxis, delivery companies, and emergency services could benefit from these additives, and ensure that their vehicles are performing at their optimum, and reducing costs.

Now you know more about what diesel additives can do for modern diesel fuels, perhaps now is the time for you to eliminate fuel filter plugging from your vehicles.
